Video Transcript

Hi I'm Amber! This video will teach you how to network using OpenCanvas.

This is video 2, it teaches you how to Network using OpenCanvas as a client. Right now, I'm opening Evolve to show you how to log in. Once you've clicked on the program and see the window has come up, you type in your username, then your password. By this point, if you don't already have an account, you will need to make one. Hit log in - sometimes it takes awhile. You can close the second window that comes up, you won't need it.

I have a pending party invitation because the Host has already sent me an invitation. Click accept. The Party window pops up. Sometimes it will take a minute to add you to the party You can see the Status at the bottom of the window. You want to wait until you're connected to send a message, like "Hi!" Now we're both connected, my message has sent, and we need to switch back to OpenCanvas.

Click on Network, and then Show Network. As the client, you want to switch to the Client tab in the NetworkWindow. Backspace the current IP address, put the IP address underneath the Host in Evolve.

In my case it is 10.167.3.2, but it will be different for you.

Enter the username you want. It's not permanent and just for the session. There is a character limit

You enter the password the Host created, in this case it is " Kitty ". Hit the button. It takes a couple seconds to boot up. Now we have a canvas and are both connected. I sent a smiley face in the chat window as a test.

At first, I cannot paint, because my font is white. Charley is the only one drawing. I switch my font to Black. The font sometimes switches to white automatically when you accidentally right click while starting the session. I'm using the Paintbrush, which is why my strokes are thicker than Charley's.

That was how you connect to a network and draw together using OpenCanvas. I hope you enjoyed!

Painting with Friends/Technical Difficulties

Video Bookmark

This is no different than painting alone. The thin tool is the pencil and the thick tool is the paintbrush. If you do not yet know how to use the OpenCanvas tools, try watching one of our other videos on Sketching or Painting.

If you are trying to draw and cannot see anything, check your font colour or click the "Change Paper Color" option in the Edit menu.

Other Technical Difficulties

Try checking that your mouse or tablet are working with other programs.

If you cannot connect in OpenCanvas, check to make sure you have the right IP Address, if you needed a password and have input it correctly, or try changing your username. If none of these options work, contact us.

If you cannot connect in Evolve, try back later or contact an administrator. You can also contact us.
