Hi, my name is Michelle and I'll be showing you how to fill your work with solid color and hard shading known as cel-shading.

First, we're going to open a .WPB file. That is a file that has maintained its layer information. I already have something inked, so we're just going to open that up.

Okay, so we're going to make the canvas bigger.

Now, if we open up any other file type other than a .WPB then we are going to have a pop up saying that you can't export the event file anymore if you use that file type.

That means that we can't record the drawing. So, if you want to be able to view the drawing again--if you want to be able to replay it--then, you'll have to use a .WPB file. So let's just close that image and get started with the other one.

You can hide a layer by clicking on the face. So let's just hide the sketch layer. When the eye is open, then the layer is visible. When the eyes are closed, the layer is invisible.

So, we've created a new layer and once you have the new layer created you can click and drag on layer two move it above or below the other.

And now I'm just gonna fiddle around with making layers visible and invisible and moving the layers above and below the other

So, look at that, the lineart disappears and now we're working on the colour layer, which we haven't even created yet.

Let's pick out some colours to determine where the light is coming from. It's just a tool to help you remember where the light is and where the shadows should fall so I'm just going to draw a couple of lines to be the light, so then that way I can remember where the shadows are actually supposed to fall. And then I'm going to pick out some skin colours.

Now, right here you'll notice that its darker than what I actually was picking. You can see that the colour picker is slightly different. So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to make the background white. So that when the layer multiplies on top of it, it doesn't have that weird darker layer thing going on.

Okay, so I'm just going to create my palette. So, first I have a slightly lighter colour--let's just get closer to the palette.

Okay, so since the canvas is a little unwieldy, I am going to actually change the canvas size. Click "Resize" and then choose the top left that means that it's going to go inwards as we clip the canvas. So, about 1000 by 1000 should be okay.

Alright, so now the canvas is a little bit easier to use. So, now I am going to fill in the rest of my palette.

So, I'm going to make the brush a little bit bigger so I can get the spots down. Then, I'm going to create a highlight, a mid-tone and a shadow, that way I have them all already set and I don't have to worry about it later on. So, now I'm just going to start filling in the skin. So, make the brush a little bit bigger and just go at it. It doesn't matter if it's perfectly in the lines, so just keep on going.

Now that all the colors have been blocked in, it's time to start adding the shadow. So, add a new layer and get ready to block in the shadow. You've got to remember where the light is coming from so just keep on adding. It's okay if you mess up because you can always erase it without erasing the a solid colour beneath. So just start filling in where the shadow is supposed to fall.

Now it's time to add the highlights, but I recommend that you use them sparingly. Just do the same as before. Create a new layer and start adding colour.

That's it! That's all there is to cel-shading!
