Video Transcript

Hi, my name is Michelle and I'll be showing you how to import a traditional sketch, how to customize your brushes for lineart and the best ways to create smooth lineart. There two ways that you can create lineart. The first is to create your sketch digitally within Open Canvas 1.1.

The second is to import a sketch, either a traditional sketch that you created on paper or though a different drawing program.

Let's import something that I already drew by clicking "File", "Open" and selecting a digital sketch I created elsewhere.

Once you open the file, Open Canvas 1.1 will tell you that you will no longer be able to export the Event File. This means that you can't replay the image at any time.

For more information about replaying your images and Event Files, click on the link below.

Click "Yes" and now you have the image that you would want to do the lineart for. Instead, I'm going to actually open up a .WPB file that I already created in the sketching video.

Now I'm going to close the other image because I don't need it anymore. Now I'm going to create a new layer. I'm going to click "Layer" and then "NewLayer (MultiplyMode/Default)".

Next, I'm going to lower the opacity of the sketch layer.

Lowering the opacity of the sketch layer allows me to see the lineart when I'm drawing it.

It's extremely important that you make sure you're on the lineart layer when you're ready to begin. Otherwise, it will be impossible for you to separate the lineart and the sketch. Let's just do some test strokes and then you can see: yes it's definitely on top of the sketch layer.

By pressing the delete button I can clear the entire active layer. Alright, so I'm going to use the same brush as I did for the sketch. That's a hard and opaque brush. It's generally relatively thin so that it's easier to use.

I'm going to zoom in as close as I can and then I am going to move the canvas around so that I can start with the nose. The closer you zoom in the easier it is to create solid and smooth lineart.

Just doing a couple of test strokes first. And then I am going to start gently putting down some digital ink.

Alright, let's speed this up!

So now that the linart is complete it's extremely important that you save your document as a .WPB file. If you don't then you'll lose the layer information and won't be able to colour it very easily later on.

For more information about saving, see the saving information video.

There's a link for that down below. don't let you are now ready to move on to sell fitting copying game

You are now ready to move on to cel-shading. Happy inking!
